We would have wanted to swim at the Grotto before wrapping up our 3-day glamping trip at Tobermory, Ontario. But there is no more parking available. Booking is done online in advance. See here. Fortunately, we were still able to book parking at the Halfway Log Dump.
If you research online, you could actually trek from the Halfway Log Dump to the Grotto. It takes about 3-5 hours depending on who you were with.
Actually, there's also hiking involve from the parking lot to the beach at the Halfway Log Dump. Over 1km. But it could feel longer with a kindergartener in tow.
The weather was windy and colder as compared to our visit to Flowerpot Island the day before. Unlike my husband, I decided not to swim. I don't feel safe with those strong waves crashing against the rocks.
As you may have guessed, the beach is made up of rocks of all sizes. Mostly round and smooth. The type my grandma uses to exfoliate her body. Don't expect a sandy beach like I did. But all good. The water is crystal clear.
One of the important things I need to know when visiting a place is to know where the toilet is. There's one flush toilet near the parking lot. Near the beach is an elevated composting toilet.
Love Tobermory, Ontario. I'd definitely want to go back with a week's stay. :)
