But I'm Not An Expert! by Meera Kothand Book Review

Have you ever been in a place wherein you wanted to do/create/start something but abruptly stopped on your tracks stating, "But I'm not an expert!"

It's normal to have doubts. It's human to have fears. But will you let these emotions/thoughts rule over you? We fear what we do not know. But as we set out to obtain more knowledge, confidence grows. We fall. We fail. But we also learn and gain.

To be an expert means you've been there, you've overcome the obstacles, you've learned the valuable lessons. And because you've made it, I can trust you to lead me and guide me to where I could also gain the knowledge and expertise to succeed in my endeavors.

Here we'll look at Meera Kothand's book: But I'm Not An Expert!: Go from Newbie to Expert and Radically Skyrocket Your Influence Without Feeling Like a Fraud. Let's see what she has to say about becoming an expert. Keep on reading.

5 Gleanings from the Book

Here are my top 5 gleanings from the book.

  • Points of differentiation are the attributes that make your brand unique. They are what make up your competitive advantage.
  • The key to feeling like an expert is to have enough knowledge to feel confident discussing the topic. You don’t have to be the world’s leading expert on the topic, but you do need to build up your own pool of knowledge and commit to continuously learning about it.
  • When your content directly shows how much you truly understand the problems of your target market, your audience will also naturally look to you as their solution.
  • Value is changing perceptions and mindsets.
  • People do business or follow people whom they can relate to or like.

Here's a Marketing Formula For You

Marketing boils down to a simple formula: Attract > Capture > Engage > Convert
If you break these down, your marketing system has these six parts:

  • Identify your target audience
  • Attract them to your site
  • Capture your target audience
  • Nurture that target audience
  • Convert them to buyers
  • Turn them into brand advocates or repeat customers

Book Review

This book takes about 2 hours of reading time. Truthfully, I'm expecting a motivation/self-development book sharing tips and advice on how to become an expert in your chosen field. The book title gave that impression. However, it talked more about online marketing.

If you 'google' the author Meera Kothand you'll find she is a marketing strategist. (I learned about this while reading the book.) That explains why. Perhaps the author or the people behind the book could have accurately given this book a more fitting title/subtitle.

Since this book leans more on online marketing, you'll encounter marketing terms and acronyms as you read along. I'm not marketing savvy but I've learned a handful of these terms earlier. It can be overwhelming for first-time readers of the topic.

That's how it usually is but as you read more, you'll become familiar with them.

RATING: 3/5

I'm rating this book a 3/5 because the title didn't match the message. I'm expecting a self-development motivational book, not about online marketing.

However, If you're someone looking to boost your online influence, gain more clients/customers, and become a go-to expert, this book could be a valuable resource to you.
