Do you have glossophobia (a fear of public speaking)? It's never-racking to present in front of a crowd. I could immediately recall the anxiety before the presentation: cold feet, heart beating faster and muscle-tightening in the chest and throat.
That's one element we have to overcome when delivering a presentation. But how about capturing your audience's attention?

Did you know?
It takes 15 seconds to grab your audience's attention. Yes, you read that right! 15 seconds to prove to your audience what you have to say will profit them. How can we get them to listen all the way then without losing interest?
"To deliver speeches and presentations
that will resonate in the memories of your audience
is as simple as a bit of preparation work."

5 Gleanings from the Book
Here are my top 5 favorite gleanings from the book.
- The foundation of a great presentation starts first and foremost with being able to articulate ideas on paper.
- When you write to nobody, nobody has a reason to care. Having an avatar allows you to talk to somebody.
- Beware of preaching to your audience. A strong signal that this may be happening is the frequent use of the word “should”.
- Engage the audience by asking them questions, be it rhetorical or simple polls.
- A great way to show your understanding of a topic is to be able to explain it in three sentences or less. Doing so will allow everybody in your audience to understand even the toughest topics you throw at them. This is a great way to start or wrap up a complicated section in your speech.

I've chock-full of great tips and advice on how to craft your speech from overcoming writer's block, determining your avatar (eye-opening part), engaging with your audience (another favorite part), defining your mission, outline, timing and more.
