Ottawa is on lockdown. Again! Ontario has been on an on-off lockdown and stay-at-home order since 2020. And we've been on quarantine for who knows how long.
But the weather is inviting. The days' longer. We could be somewhere without being indoors or amongst a crowd. Thankfully, there are a number of quaint little towns a short drive from Ottawa. One is Almonte, Ontario. It's a 35-minute drive away from the Capital.
There are shops to visit. New restaurants to tantalize the tastebuds. Museums to gawked at. Unfortunately, none of that happened. It's not possible. Everything is close.
Our itinerary?
Sightsee the Old Historic Downtown. Enjoy the friendly weather, while gaping at the raging waterfalls at the heart of the small town.
One of my favorite things to do when visiting historic places is to beeline to antique shops. I use to collect keychains from my travels. Sadly, I lost them all after moving from place to place, country to country for the past 10 years.
After we bought a house in Austin, Texas, USA I switch to collecting art and decor pieces. An idea I pick up from my brother-in-law. This is how we did the interior in the living room.
Quirky and unique pieces in the home are conversation starters. Also, I prefer to see the keepsakes, from my wanderings, in the spaces I could easily see them. They ignite happy memories I create with my loved ones. Nope, I wasn't able to add a new one this time. Again, shops are closed.
What travel mementos do you collect?
