The husband gestured, "That's the spot. Can you make out the river behind the clump of trees?"
"How many times have we pass this road and not know about this?"
It's hard to believe we've lived in Ottawa, Ontario for almost two years and miss this falls located within the city limits.
"Wait, why were police cars stationed all over the place?" I queried the husband as if he knew. On the other side of the street, a few steps to the entrance, an ambulance is positioned. People were gathering behind the railings, searching for something or someone in the water. Something terrible must have happened.
"Let's check the falls tomorrow." The husband suggested, trying to ignore the emergency painting the scenery. Though worried the place might be barricaded with yellow tape, I answered back, "Of course."
That night, my fingers could not resist the curiosity of the scenario. I google the local news. Horror-stricken, I found out a man fell down to the falls. He was still missing that night...
until the next day when we came to visit.
But the park didn't show signs of tragedy. Despite the sad news from the other day, it was bustling with movement. A family lazing about inside a small tent. Couples holding hands, smiling from ear to ear. A man calculatingly positioning his DSLR to get the perfect shot. Mommy or daddy running behind their little ones.
Finding a vacant bench with the perfect view of the falls, I offered my family snacks. The hubby busied himself experimenting with the long exposure feature on his phone.
While the little boy nosh on my side, I said a little prayer. That's the least I could do for the place, for the man, his family, and the people involve.
We then followed a trail, found big rocks to pose on with the river in the background, and take photos and videos.
It didn't take long for the mosquitos to sucked fresh blood out from our flesh. We didn't stay long.
My son likes to pose wacky. (lol) By the way, I did a post detailing the outfit I wore during our visit to Hog's Back Falls, you can check it out here.
The visit was quick and fun. We're grateful Ontario is filled with parks, small towns, and open spaces to visit whilst on a lockdown.
